Fishing in New Smyrna Beach has been consistent as usual. Red Snapper season is upon us, and plenty of charter fishing boats were on stacked on top of the reefs and wrecks outside of Ponce Inlet the past couple weekends. The bite on the bottom has been time dependent and I would guess that changing sea temperatures have been affecting the fishing on the top and bottom. Trolling out of New Smyrna Beach in the summer can be slow once the day gets hot, so we bottom fish a lot in the summer. We have plenty of good holes for giant red snapper and grouper, so use your sonar machine to locate a good ledge or rock pile (any change in bottom), and do your best to find some fish. Looking forward to fall, the trolling should get better for a bit before winter is upon us. I’ll keep you guys updated! Good luck out there!

Last week in the Ponce Inlet area we had a lot of beautiful blue water push closer to shore, which has encouraged the fish to eat. Inshore things have been pretty good, with most guys catching flounder limits before noon. We have been bottom fishing, as it is red snapper season, and we have had some luck. We found plenty of nice size red snapper in Ponce Inlet, and we added a mutton snapper to the mix. We find live bait to be best, with mullet or pinfish as our choice. I hope you had a great experience out there this year and remember for next time that these snapper see a lot of lines and bait, so scale down your tackle for the most bites.

Jimmy Tiblier7/2/2020 Hi everybody, BVO fishing here with a short article…
The seasons are changing and so is the fishing here in the New Smyrna Beach Florida area. As we roll into these hot summer months, be cautious when heading offshore. What may look calm in the morning can become 5-6 foot seas within a matter of minutes. As this warm weather pattern sets in, the fishing up top gets slower. Trolling after 10 or 11 am is usually fruitless, as the surface is too hot for bait, so they sit lower during midday hours. If you are heart set on trolling, take advantage of the morning and evening hours. We find it more productive to bottom fish during those midday hours when it’s hot as hell. Good luck out there folks!
